MISSION:

BE A CHURCH OF DISCIPLES WHO MAKE DISCIPLES

The Mission of First Baptist Church is “Making Disciples Who Make Disciples.” Jesus commissioned the church to make disciples. What is a disciple of Jesus? A disciple of Jesus is a person who is committed to following Him, spend time with Jesus, and become more like Him.

And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.’” Matthew 28:18-20 ESV

VISION:

BE A CHURCH THAT GIVES ITSELF AWAY

Our mission is what we do and our vision is how we do it. The way First Baptist Church fulfills our mission, Making Disciples Who Make Disciples, is by “Giving Ourselves Away.” Jesus made disciples by giving Himself away. He gave his time. He gave his teaching. Ultimately, He gave His life to make disciples.

Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” Philippians 2:5-8 ESV

VALUES:

WE BELIEVE IN THE SOVEREIGNTY OF GOD, THE SANCTITY OF LIFE, AND THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE LOCAL CHURCH

Mission is what we do. Vision is how we do it. Values are high priorities we deem indispensable in fulfilling our mission. First Baptist Church values the sovereignty of God. He is King and Lord and we are His servants. We value the sanctity of human life. God created all people in His image. This demands our love and respect for all people, including our evangelistic witness to all people. We value the significance of the local church. Scripture calls the church the “body of Christ,” “bride of Christ,” and “flock of God.” The book of Acts tells us that Jesus purchased the Church of God with His own blood. We are told not to forsake the assembling of ourselves together.

"The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters." Psalm 24:1-2

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” Genesis 1:27 ESV

Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood.” Acts 20:28.
